Napoli – New developments in the case of Angela Celentano, the three-year-old girl who disappeared on August 10, 1996 during a family trip to Monte Faito.
The investigating judge of the Naples court, Federica Colucci, has ordered the continuation of the investigations on the so-called “Turkish lead”, rejecting the request for archiving advanced by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, represented by the deputy prosecutor Giuseppe Cimmarotta.
The GIP's decision reopens an investigative window on a case that has kept Italy in suspense for almost thirty years. The Prosecutor's Office had requested the case be closed due to a lack of concrete evidence, in particular on the hypothesis that Angela could be linked to a young woman portrayed in a photo, whose physical features did not significantly match those of the missing child.
However, the investigating judge decided to further investigate the Turkish lead, which emerged in 2009 thanks to a blogger's report. The blogger reported information received from a priest, according to which a believer had indicated the possible presence of Angela in Turkey.
Despite repeated attempts by the Naples Prosecutor's Office to involve the Turkish authorities, the investigations have so far produced no concrete results.
The Celentano family, informed of the new investigative phase, continues to hope for a breakthrough that could shed light on the fate of the little girl. The investigation continues with renewed determination, in a case that remains among the most painful mysteries in Italian news.
